Bright Shadow
Above: Left – ten days since planting, Right – Sunflowers in bloom at Saint Agathas Court [3/9/09]
Bright Shadow is the title of a collaboration between Via Artists Group and Projector Collective. The artists have gained access from Dublin City Council for the use of a disused garden and premises at Saint Agathas Court in north inner city Dublin. Via artists group planted a crop of sunflowers in June 09. The plants flowered towards the end of August and will continue to flower for a short period of time. Projector Collective have completed gilding the sixteen metal shutters on each window of the south side of the building which completes a temporary public dialogue between two artists collectives…
A public launch for this project is planned to take place in September 2009 and will be advertised soon
St Agathas Court is located on William Street
…opposite Saint Agathas Church and in between North Strand and Amiens Street
We geminated 10,000 sunflowers…
…these are the plugs at three weeks old
First week of planting [end of June 2009]
Below left and right: we can gather over ten litres of water from the gutters of the building in one rainfall
We also use the wheelie bin [image on right] to collect water from the nearby canal and wheel it back to the site.

10 days in
four weeks since planting…
On 28/7/09 we arrived to water the plants and found that a large section of the crop had been trampled on and pulled out of the ground.
Most of the damaged plants had been pulled out with the roots still intact so we tried to replant most of the damaged flowers
…but the uprooted plants didnt take

9/8/09 – Six weeks since planting…
